AS DIRECTOR OF ROOMS
NEWPORT BEACH, CA – March 20, 2013 – The Resort at Pelican Hill® today announced the appointment of David Phillips to director of rooms. With more than 18 years of hospitality and management experience, Phillips will lead the front office, concierge, guest services, hospitality services, housekeeping and security teams at Newport Beach’s only Five-Star resort.
“As we continually strive to deliver inspirational, personalized experiences to the world’s most discerning travelers from far and near, David’s leadership and background in luxury hotel operations will be instrumental,” said Pelican Hill Managing Director, Giuseppe Lama. “His amiable, passionate management style and thoughtful, engaging personality exemplify the essential qualities sought in hospitality professionals who uphold our industry’s rigorous Five-Star service standards.”
Phillips’ passion for the hospitality industry began at a young age, when he spent every summer traveling to the Delaware coast with his family. The “home away from home” experiences that shaped the vacations of his childhood later inspired him to pursue a hotel internship in the picturesque Pocono Mountains in northeastern Pennsylvania. His ensuing hospitality career stretched into nearly every corner of the country, beginning at The Phoenician in Scottsdale, Arizona and The St. Regis Aspen Resort in Aspen, Colorado.
Prior to joining Southern California’s The Resort at Pelican Hill, Phillips served as director of rooms at The Peabody in Little Rock, Arkansas, Sandpearl Resort in Clearwater Beach, Florida, Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, Delaware and La Playa Beach and Golf Resort in Naples, Florida.Previously, he held management roles at The Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas, Texas and Kiawah Island Resorts on Kiwawah Island, South Carolina.
Phillips earned his bachelor of science degree in hotel administration from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania. He resides in Laguna Niguel with his wife and three children.
